My name is Mike Drummey, I sing in a band called The Elysium.
I've always found that you can find a much better story in a song than you can in a book.
I grew up in a small town calledPlainville , which is about an hour outside of Boston . I really don't like it at all but though I guess I've been trying to escape it my whole life, it has handed me the tools I need to do that, and a few good friends along the way.
My dad, Tom Drummey, is the only reason I've ever been able to anything in life. He's worked from waiting tables to a white collar success so that my family can have everything we want. I could never tell him how thankful I am. He supports the band fully and has made enough connections over the years to get us where we need.
I think that when the band formed, everything that I've ever tried to do (musically at least) clicked after the band formed. There's been a lot that I've been through in my life that has made me a good writer (by my own standards at least.) I started writing a few years before I started singing, but I never showed anyone those old songs. I only started singing about a year before the band formed but most of my time is and always has been based around music.
I find allot of my inspiration for writing in past relationships good and bad. Which doesn't mean it is an Eros relationship; a lot of them are just friendships. But I also find a lot of it in the things around me. I'm pro-life, so I respect what I've got the opportunity to see. Except school, I could be doing much bigger things than I do when I'm in school.
Like any artist I have idols, mine are Tom Petty, Adam Duritz, John Mayer and Caleb Followill. There's only one artist I have ever heard that I haven't ever disliked one song he's written, and that is Rob Thomas.
All in all, there isn't much special about me. I'm nothing but a small town kid with big town dreams, wishing that they come true.
